History

  Miami-based Magnum Marine shipyard is one of the most important American shipyards, and it specializes in the production of high-quality Open boats and military boats for the American government, as well as for military provisions to other countries. The history of the shipyard began in 1966, when its founder Dan Aronow, boat builder and offshore champion, built a 27’ race boat for himself, the “Maltese Magnum” with which he became World Champion. The shipyard was then sold to Apeco, that managed it from 1968 to 1976, and then to the Italian Marquis Filippo Theodoli, who invented the Open Sport Yacht. He introduced big changes in the shipyard, turning it from a race boat to a luxury yacht builder and beginning important collaborations, such as that with the famous Ferrari designer, Sergio Pininfarina, for the 63’ Pininfarina, manufactured from 1983 to 1992. In 1986, this was the only boat to cross the finish line of the Miami-Nassau-Miami because of the very bad weather that forced all other boats to withdraw. After Filippo Theodoli passed away, his wife Karim succeeded him in 1990. In 1993, she launched the Magnum 50 with Hermes interiors, followed by the Magnum 44. In 2001, the Magnum 60 was launched, with Roberto Cavalli interiors, followed by the 80’ in 2008 and by the design of the first 100’ in 2010. Currently, the range of models includes the Magnum 27’, 44’, 51’, 60’, 70’, 80’ and 100’. The “Magnum” brand became legendary thanks to its great handling capacity, especially with harsh conditions, as well as to the quality of the entirely customizable interior. The shipyard wrote a page of the Yachting history by inventing the category of the so-called “Open Fast Cruiser Yacht”.

The Magnum 38 is a fast and fun Open boat build by Miami-based Magnum Marine (USA) during Apeco management (1968-1976), that also manufactured the fast Magnum 27 and 28. It was designed by Dan Aronow and it is 3 feet longer than the popular “Maltese”, one of the first fast commuters ever produced. It is a very versatile boat; different versions of the Magnum 38 do exist, such as a cabin “fisherman” open cruiser or a cabin cruiser. The MAGNUM 38 is a fast and exciting Open built by Magnum Marine, based in Miami (USA), during the years under Apeco’s management (1968–1976)—the same company that produced the highly successful Magnum 27 and 28. This model is extremely versatile, available in “Fisherman”, semi-cabin, or fully-cabin configurations. The interior layout of the Magnum 38 is defined by its molded liner, while the exterior stands out for the spacious cockpit, notable for its high freeboards. The excellent seakeeping qualities of the 38 ensure smooth handling at both medium and high speeds, while the wide aft section allows the boat to get on plane almost instantly.  
 
The MAGNUM 38 underwent a thorough general refit completed in 2024, that began in 2022 and included: complete refitting and painting of both hull and superstructure with Dupont paint; replacement of the engines, exhaust systems, and all seacocks; removal of the shaft line and installation of a Top System surface drive; new electrical system (lighting, windlass, galley, pumps, refrigerator, bathrooms); new interior and exterior upholstery; new instrumentation; complete reconstruction of both interior and exterior furniture; new bathing platform; new swim ladder; replacement of all piping and carbon poles for the bimini top; replacement of all gaskets; re-chroming of all stainless steel parts; and a new stereo system. The MAGNUM 38 is well equipped with generator, hot/cold air conditioning, external GPS with cartography, autopilot, swim platform, induction cooktop, dual interior/exterior fridges, bathroom with electric toilet, TV in the dinette, Hi-Fi system, sunshade bimini, and full cockpit cover.
